Courtyard Private School

Academics

Courtyard School offers an excellent academic program for children in Transitional Kindergarten through 8th grade. Using a curriculum designed to pique student interest and foster critical thinking skills, our students are provided an academic foundation that helps them develop a love of learning.

Through hands-on activities, guest speakers, projects, and other enriching activities, the well-rounded curriculum includes instruction not only in the core subjects of reading, writing, and math but also offers enrichment courses in Spanish, performing arts, music and physical education. Our educational model emphasizes creativity, art, science, athletics, community service, and frequent field trips designed to complement and enhance the classroom lessons. Our foreign language program, which was redesigned during the 2018-19 academic year, supports an inclusive all school foreign language program which introduces and supports a rich perspective into Spanish culture and language. For those students who wish to dive deeper into the language, a Spanish club is offered after school.

Student learning is supported with frequent field trips as well as multi-day trips. Destinations to places such as Marin Headlands, Yosemite National Park, the Santa Monica Mountains, Astro Camp, and day trips to the nearby B Street Children’s Theater, The Crocker Art Museum, Lawrence Hall of Science, and the San Francisco Zoo are just some examples of our strong field trip program.

Courtyard’s dedication to a strong academic foundation is driven and supported by our seasoned faculty. Together, our staff provides a strong network of support to help our students excel. Our small class sizes allow our teachers the freedom to tailor curriculum to meet the individual needs of each student. Courtyard teachers are highly creative in the way they engage students in all subject areas and are encouraged to use their talents and skills in unique and effective ways.

Courtyard’s emphasis is not on test scores, but on providing a strong academic foundation for a life-long love of learning. Our students go on to be very successful in accelerated secondary programs throughout the Sacramento region.
