Middle School

Courtyard's award winning Middle School strives to help students round out their development into scholars, artists, and leaders.

Academically, students are challenged to think, question, and explore through hands-on activities, in depth novel studies, science labs, and frequent field trips. The class size allows for individualized learning that meets the students where they are and also challenges them to grow and love learning.

On the creative front, students get regular instruction in art history, writing, and reading, and help direct their course of study based on their passions and interests.

Leadership in Middle school takes many forms: mentoring our younger friends on campus, performing acts of community service, taking over the class as a guest lecturer, and learning a variety of life skills  to help not only themselves but others as well.

In addition to the regular curriculum and specialist classes (Spanish, PE, Music, & Theater,) Courtyard students receive instruction in a variety of other spaces including life skills courses (taxes, basic car maintenance, cooking, etc…) and rotating classes based on availability of lecturers (Sac State’s Young Philosophers Program, Coding, 3D Modeling.)

Our Seventh and Eighth grade students find they are well-prepared to take on the most rigorous private and public high school programs in the greater Sacramento area.  Students are regularly admitted to and thrive when transitioning to the top high schools in the area- Christian Brothers, Jesuit, St. Francis, McClatchy HISP, JFK PACE, Rio Americano Civitas, Mira Loma IB, and several smaller private high schools.

Middle school is a typically a difficult time for many students as they grow and mature physically and emotionally.  Courtyard provides a supportive environment that allows students to thrive academically while finding their way physically, socially, and emotionally with fellow classmates and friends outside of school. While the curriculum is more advanced, and students receive more responsibility for their education, middle school students are beginning to figure out their identity and discover the topics and activities they enjoy. They learn new study habits and skills to prepare for even more challenging high school courses
